AGA gives students the opportunity to travel to a foreign country for 10-14 days in order to understand the culture and agriculture of that country. In recent years, AGA has traveled to Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, Jamaica, Canada, and Costa Rica. Last year AGA toured Honduras.

Next year (2004), we will travel to Cuba.

Those that go on the trip write a short paper describing some of the unique aspects of the country. Some of the papers written after the 2 Honduras study tours include information on the Lancetilla Botanical Gardens, Dole Fruit Operations (Pineapple, Banana, Plantain), Sugar Production, Life at Zamarano Agriculture College, Tilapia Farms, Coffee Production, Uyuca Cloud Forest, and Cacao Production. Information on these topics can be obtained by contacting Dean Bohn.

These pictures are from our most recent study tour taken January 7 to January 17, 2003 to Honduras.

Honduran outhouse
A modern stove utilized by a community.
A fire is placed under the stove and a pipe
carries the smoke out of the house. The
Promesa Project helped supply the materials
necessary to install this pipe. Without the pipe,
the smoke would stay in the house and cause
respiratory difficulties for the family members.
The use of an outhouse is an
added bonus for this family.
Many families in the community
do not have the use of an outhouse.
